Sabana REIT partners Keppel EaaS to build EV charging, solar panels in its properties
Sabana Industrial REIT’s CEO Edmund Kong says: “We believe this project will further cement Sabana’s commitment to sustainability and continue to accelerate greater environmental initiatives of being a responsible real estate company.”
Sabana Industrial REIT has followed through on its commitment to sustainability and environmental initiatives by entering into agreements with Keppel Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) to implement electric vehicle (EV) charging and solar photovoltaic cells (PVs). The initial phase of the project is the installation of four Volt EV charging stations at the REIT’s property at 151 Lorong Chuan, also known as New Tech Park. The charging stations are expected to be completed within 1H2023 and will be available to tenants and the public.
Keppel EaaS will also be installing solar PVs across four of Sabana REIT’s properties: 10 Changi South Street 2, 34 Penjuru Lane, 3A Joo Koon Circle and 1 Tuas Avenue 4. The target completion for these projects are end 3Q2023 for the former three properties and 1H2024 for the latter. The solar PVs boast an impressive 4.7 megawatt peak (MWp) and are able to produce over 5,700 megawatt hours (MWh) per year, enough to power over 1,700 three-room HDB flats for a year. This will also result in 43,000 tonnes of emissions reduction over the project’s 25 year lifecycle – equivalent to the carbon abatement of planting 30,000 trees. Moreover, the REIT can enjoy lower energy consumption as a result.
Furthering Sabana Industrial REIT’s commitment to sustainability is the signing of the sustainability partnership memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the REIT and Keppel EaaS. Under the MOU, they are working towards the goal of being one of Singapore’s first carbon-neutral industrial REITs by 2040. To reach this target, the REIT may implement smart cooling with zero upfront capital expenditure to reduce energy consumption and maintenance cost. This includes the installation and operation of energy-efficient chiller systems, renewable energy certificates and green electricity supply, with Keppel EaaS at the helm.
Commenting on the project, Sabana Industrial REIT’s CEO Edmund Kong said, “We believe this project will further cement Sabana’s commitment to sustainability and continue to accelerate greater environmental initiatives of being a responsible real estate company.”
